Where's a hungry researcher to find food at all times of the day and (more importantly) at night?
Here's a list of food options on campus:
1. Mess
Edible food. Time-bound. Cheap. Tea-time is good, since most snacks are bought from outside. But if it's better than most messes, I wouldn't know.
2. Tea/Coffee Board
Only 09--18, with second Saturdays and public holidays off. What do you expect from a government concern? But great filter coffee, never tried the food yet, but looks cheap.
3. Gym Cafe
Only 18--02, nice ambience, okay food, incredibly cheap too. Rare place on campus that provides the staple food of all students, except we spell it M-A-G-G-I here. It's quite expensive here, compared to IITB methinks. But that's okay, since other food (like Dosas, Parathas, etc.) are dirt cheap (single-digit). Have started frequenting this often, since it's on my way back to the hostel on those long nights (and early mornings). Which, btw, are getting rather frequent.
4. Tea Board Canteen
Open till 0230H, never visited this yet, but it's the closest to my department. Will probably soon be a regular here.
5. New Canteen
Never visited it yet. Timings unknown so far.
And of course, Bangalore's a great place for food outside the campus too. But that's for another post.
