As a hush descended upon the court, the story-teller began his tale. His audience was spell-bound, transported to a dark realm in broad daylight. The echoes of the hero's horse beat in their heads, as he moved headlong into a trap. They cried out inspite of themselves, "Beware!", but it was of no avail. The hero was caught! His fearsome demon captors frightened them, and they cowered on hearing the voice of the Demon King. They smiled as they caught a glimpse of the fair beauty, his daughter, who despite herself, fell in love with their hero. It wasn't long before Love triumphed, their hero fought his captors, and escaped with his fair bride to a land of peace of joy and contentment. And then the spell was broken. For the story-teller had ended his tale.
A good story and a good story-teller make for a marvelous tale. In our age of books (and television), story-tellers aren't missed much. Until you discover how good they can really be. Let the tradition of Dastan Goi prosper!
Update: The modern Dastangoi's have a blog.
